Abstract :
The dynamic nature of the ad hoc networks makes quality of service (QoS) support in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) a challenging and difficult task where nodes may leave and join the network or move around anytime. A mechanism for resources allocation/reservation has to be implemented to provide the needed assurance for the desired level of quality. Due to the bandwidth constraint and dynamic topology of MANET, supporting QoS in MANETs is a challenging task. A lot of research has been done on supporting QoS in the Internet and other network architectures, but most of them are not suitable in the MANET environment. In this paper, we present an overview of optimized protocols employed for the purpose of providing QoS for small sized mobile ad-hoc networks like DiffServ, Intserv, DSRRSVP, DRSVP, FQMM, SWAN and MRSVP
