Abstract :
Through proposing the intelligence dimension and integration dimension, this paper builds a new research system to study the evolution of contemporary business information systems (BIS). From the two dimensional perspective, the author analyzes some typical BIS such as management information systems (MIS), decision support systems (DSS), enterprise resources planning (ERP), and business intelligence (BI), probes into their individual development and their interrelationships during the process, and based on that, builds the model for the evolution and reaches the conclusion that the evolution of contemporary BIS is a non-linear process of various types of integration and intelligence enhancement.
