Abstract :
Recent progress of photonic nanocavities in two-dimensional photonic crystal slabs is described. Experimentally, a cavity having a Q factor of 2 million and a photon lifetime of 1.7 ns is shown. Theoretically, a systematic cavity design method which enables a Q factor of 109 is described. Dynamic tuning of the Q factor is also discussed.
