Abstract :
Summary form only given. Research supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Biophotonics will be discussed. Selected examples of awards will be described. NSF funding opportunities and funding mechanisms in Biophotonics will be pointed out. Special attention will be paid to the Biophotonics program in the Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport (CBET) Systems. This program support research, often with diagnosis or treatment-related goals that applies engineering principles to problems in biology and medicine while advancing the engineering knowledge base. Examples of some biophotonic topics of interest are; low coherence sensing at the nanoscale, macromolecule markers, multi-probe molecular manipulations, neuro-photonics, miniaturized optical devices, and photon-cell interactions.
