Abstract :
Channel scanning delay is dominant in the handoff delay of the MAC layer over WLAN. It´s important for improving the QoS performance of WLAN. This paper designed a simple mobile handoff prediction algorithm and proposed a new channel scanning theme based on the information of mobile handoff prediction. The channel scanning algorithm is proved to be effective by performance analysis and simulation. If the accuracy of the handoff prediction can be guaranteed to some extent, it could reduce the channel scanning delay greatly compared with basic active scanning.
