Abstract
This paper provides the design steps of an Iterative linear matrix inequality (ILMI) method based on static output feedback (SOF) PID controller. The proposed controller has a simple structure and an easy implementation. It is used to guarantee the stability of the closed loop power system stabilizer (PSS) and damp out local-mode oscillations of a synchronous generator. A single machine infinite bus system is considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of the described controller. The performance of the PID controller is compared and tested with conventional lead-lag (CLL) controller through simulating severe disturbances, changes in operating conditions and parameters variation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields better results and faster convergence than CLL controller.
