Abstract :
A crucial piece of the 100 GbE ecosystem now under construction is the cost-effective transport of 100 GbE client signals across the WAN with the ability to easily provision, manage, troubleshoot and protect the service. The 100 GbE signal from the client equipment (e.g., switch/router) is connected to the optical transport system by means of a short-reach physical interface, currently being standardized by the IEEE. This signal is then transported using Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) networks spanning metro, regional or long-haul distances, and handed off to the receiving client.
