Abstract
Voltage source inverters can be used in a variety of industrial applications, such as distributed generation, wind energy conversion, electric motor drives, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Considerable research has been given to the control of three-phase voltage source inverters. However, protection of these inverters is a key issue in inverter applications, which has not been widely studied. This paper presents a dynamic current limiting control method for voltage source inverters. A simple d-q axis model of three-phase voltage source inverters is used to introduce the control schemes of voltage source inverters under normal operating conditions. A dynamic current limiting control method and the flowchart of the proposed control scheme are then given. The control strategy is tested in a model developed in Simulink and simulation results verify that this dynamic current limiting method is capable of protecting the inverter from certain over-current faults.
