Abstract :
A comprehensive study of radio signal propagation in microcellular environments for personal communications services (PCSs) has been conducted by Telesis Technologies Laboratory (TTL) using three potential PCS transmitting antenna heights of 3.2 m, 8.7 m and 13.4 m and two potential PCS frequencies in the 900 MHz and 1900 MHz bands. Three test settings were chosen to represent a variety of urban and suburban propagation environments. In each area, the receiving mobile was driven along a pre-selected line-of-sight (LOS) street and a neighboring parallel street in order to test LOS signal coverage, as well as interference to the adjacent streets. In addition, measurements were made when the receiving mobile drove in zig-zag and staircase patterns around the buildings to gather information about diffraction over the roofs in suburban areas, and diffraction around the corners in urban areas
