Abstract :
We have been developing a typing training system and we tried to support touch-typing training, where eye-gaze must be detected for checking the trainee is not looking at the keyboard. The eye-gaze detecting function was designed to use a normal PC with a built-in or general USB camera and to discriminate at least whether the trainee is looking at the display or the keyboard in real-time. We developed simple and quick discriminating method consisting two stages. The first stage is detecting eye regions by template matching, and the second stage is discriminating eye-gaze by shape matching. After a short-time calibration for making the trainee´s own template image and determining the threshold for shape matching, the eye-gaze is successfully detected more than 15 times per a second.
