Abstract
A Multi-terminal Serial Optical Link (MSOL) based on novel automatic wavelength offset control (AWOC) is presented. The MSOL makes it possible to distribute many optical terminals along one pair of fibers. The AWOC circuit offsets the LD wavelength by control ling the laser bias current to minimize the RF band beat noise which is inherent in MSOL systems, and enables high C/N optical fiber microwave transmission. An experimental MSOL with AWOC circuit is constructed to estimate the fundamental transmission performance when applied to an 800 / 900 MHz digital cellular based indoor personal communication system. Experimental results show that the proposed MSOL can realize low cost optical fiber RF micro-cell systems that are easy to install.
