  • Abstract
Due to the localized optical near field caused by the SP effect, the response speeds and efficiencies of PDs can be improved. This means that Si nano-photodiodes can be fabricated with superior characteristics. As their footprint is quite small, they are suitable for on-chip optical wiring application on LSIs. Therefore, nano-PDs are expected to be used in telecommunication systems as well as for on-chip level optical interconnections.
