Abstract :
In this paper we present two new dynamic (mathematical) models for passive optical coupler for optical fibre local area network. The input, measured in terms of the number of user requests in each time slice, is modeled as a Poisson random process with time varying mean intensity thereby allowing time varying data traffic. We introduce a cost functional reflecting the measure of performance of the system in terms of average throughput, channel under utilization, and loss of service. The proposed models allow estimation of design parameters that cannot be achieved by static analysis
