Abstract :
As a result of the wide acceptance of object-oriented database systems, performance related issues become a crucial factor in the success of object-oriented database systems. To improve performance the database system architecture and data structures, are designed accordingly. In this paper we design and develop a simulation tool based on the object oriented concept implementing class hierarchy and composite class hierarchy. A new simulation tool for object oriented databases entitled SOOD, is proposed in this paper, provides the flexible environment for defining, modifying and simulating the components of a OODB management system architecture. Thus providing a platform to plug-in different protocols and measures their performance under different conditions. It also enables users to customize and extend the framework to add more functionality or adapt simulation behavior as required. In particular, SOOD simulation tool represents a tool to highlight the strength and weakness and evaluate new architectural components in a relatively short time.
