A human perception related chaos based sensor fusion system for on-line supervisory control

Abstract :
A new control approach based on the operator´s ability to use his most important sense, visual perception, is presented. The approach is based on co-operation between the human operator and a sensor system. A two dimensional visual system supported by chaos technology is used for on-line supervision of an industrial process in a multi-sensorial application. Cooperation is established between the human operator and the chaos-supported vision system in selective attention as well as in featural singletons, resulting in improved problem identification ability. The ideas presented here are illustrated by two examples taken from industrial on-line supervision control: a temperature supervision system and a system for supervision of an industrial baking oven. Both are based on chaos technology combined with visual sensor fusion and show the advantages of this human perception related technique when applied to automatic production lines. This approach appears to result in better operator perception abilities than conventional human-machine interfaces
