Abstract
This paper presents a GCV method to the problem of reconstructing a free form curve and surface from measurement data. The GCV method provides a data driven fairness parameter which is an important factor in the energy constrained LSQ approximation. The GCV method is better than the experimental LSQ approximation in several aspects: first, it is optimal; second, it is reliable; third, it is faster. Detailed algorithms are presented which calculate the optimal fairness surface to a prescribed error tolerance.
