The Sustainable Development of Urban Environmental Management - The Reuse of Old Industrial Buildings Combined with Creative Industries in Beijing

Since the 20th century, more and more complex urban functions challenge the urban environment management. Based on the concept of sustainable development, the projects that reuse the old industrial buildings combined with the creative industries play a positive role in the urban environmental protection and promote the sustainable operation of the urban environmental management. From the case of 798 Art Zone, this article puts forward a new mode of the urban environmental management in China -the multi-network management mode of the sustainable development. In this way, the side-by-side work mode that divides the task into several stages and blocks should be changed into to the mesh model of the multi-member and multi-stage coordination. The power focus should be shifted gradually to the grass-roots communities. At the same time, the political game among the government, the non-governmental organizations, the civil groups, the developers and the market mechanisms should be introduced into urban planning, in order to cope with the ever-changing requirements, and to improve the efficiency of the urban environmental management.
