Abstract
Based on the short-time Fourier Transform (STFT), discussion for a series arcing fault detection system is presented. The algorithm of three criteria to the 50 Hz fundamental component, the even harmonic and the odd harmonic components is described. The implementation including the arithmetic flowchart and the hardware system is given, and the threshold values are discussed according to the limited testing loads in lab. The results of experiments with a series arc fault detection tests and unwanted tripping tests partially verify the feasible of the detecting algorithm.
