Abstract
RBF based surface recovery provides good implicit representation of 3D object´s shapes, but it has the disadvantage of time consuming. To apply automatic surface measurement from scanned 3D points in industry, this paper presents several techniques for efficiency improvements of RBF method. Partial surface recovery, octree division and combination, inverse power method and improved Cholesky factorization can either avoid unnecessary computing or speed up recovery procedure. The experiments on girth measurements of human foot have proved that the proposed methods are helpful.
