Abstract
The storm surge forecasting data contain abundant information and have significant value to mitigate the effects of natural hazards more effectively. However, given the relatively high temporal frequency of the forecasting data, it is relatively difficult to visualize them over the Web with an effective interactive effect. In this paper, we find a solution to facilitate the visualization of the storm surge forecasting data in a Web page. We report an effort to develop a set of toolkits that enable a range of users with little IT skill to examine different aspects of the forecasting data on-line. The tools have been experimented by using marine monitoring data from the three-dimensional and real time monitoring system for the marine dynamic environment in the Taiwan Strait and its adjacent regions. It was indicated by experimental results that they have powerful practical merits to both the public and professionals.
