Abstract :
The effect of the shape of the phase noise of oscillators on the performance of digital communication systems employing the various modulation schemes such as BPSK, QPSK, QAM and 2DPSK are investigated. The phase noise model used comprises of white phase noise, white frequency noise, and flicker frequency noise components. The dB penalty due to all phase noise components of the spectral shape of the phase noise is evaluated separately. The performance degradation of the system is compared for the normalized frequency offset and normalized spectrum magnitude for these modulation schemes. Besides, the performance degradation is investigated with respect to transmission rate and phase noise spectrum magnitude for the QPSK system
