Abstract :
This paper provides a brief review of materials properties characterization techniques commonly used to determine the performance properties of electrical insulating materials. Verification of the performance properties of insulating materials used in high voltage applications requires the experimenter to understand the capabilities and limitations of the testing methods. An introductory discussion related to benchmarking chemical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties using standardized lab practices will be discussed. A basic description of materials properties in relation to the testing methods is also included.
