Abstract
Digital protective relays are going through major development these days. From purely protective devices, they are now becoming powerful networking, logic and engineering devices fully utilizing technologies of protective relaying, networking, telecommunications and programmable logic controllers all together. Notably, networking is evolving rapidly thanks to Ethernet and IEC 61850 developments.
