Abstract
With the average age of many generators approaching 50 years or more, it is increasingly important that routine inspections are done to identify any machine anomalies. Recently, at Ontario power generation, a routine inspection on one of the hydro pump generators revealed a very serious condition on the rotor spider that was unknown to exist before the inspection took place. Potential catastrophic results were avoided.
