So far, Yele Dam is the highest rockfill dam with asphalt concrete core in the world. In order to solve problems such as local softening, softening range, expanded tendency and whether softening regions would interpenetrate, adopt hump-shaped model suitable for asphalt concrete´s strain-softening and matched iterative approach. Solve equations of equilibrium containing local softening elements using virtual-spring-initial stress iterative approach. Furthermore, identify the validity of the model and iterative approach. In the end of the paper, apply the model to Yele Dam´s safety evaluation. The result makes it clear that the internal of dam core has not appeared local softening under current loads, so the dam hasn´t become unstable.
