Abstract :
The Boolean particle swarm optimization technique in conjunction with the scattering matrix method is proposed to design two dimensional photonic crystal based structures. The potential of this approach is illustrated in a lens design problem. The resulting lens has a superb F-number of 0.39. Furthermore, the effectiveness of this method in comparison with a genetic algorithm based optimization procedure is presented.
