Abstract :
A very-high-energy hadron collider LHC (Large Hadron Collider), at CERN, is intended to be installed in the LEP (Large Electron-Positron colliding beam accelerator) tunnel. As there will be an overlap in the exploitation of LEP and LHC, the possibility of e-p collisions exist. It is shown that for an electron energy of 60 GeV and a proton energy of 7.7 TeV, the luminosity reaches 2.8*10/sup 32/ cm/sup -2/ s/sup -1/. The full LEP RF power is used and electron beam-beam tune shifts are at their maximum. Limitations come from the parasitic mode losses in the superconducting cavities of LEP. The optimization process includes the detector design.<>
