Abstract
Due to its avoidance of brushes, brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) shows significant commercial benefits when replacing traditional doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) in offshore wind farms. In order to analyze the fault ride-through capability of BDFIG, a BDFIG based wind energy conversion system is set up and subjected to three-phase symmetrical grid fault. Detailed analysis of currents and voltages of both windings as well as DC link during the fault is presented in this paper. The results obtained from simulation and experimental tests are also provided for verification purpose.
