Abstract
This article calculated the amount of carbon emissions due to energy consumption in Guangzhou City from 1992 to 2007, using the calculation methodology and carbon emission coefficients adopted by the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. The main results were listed as follows. The total and per capital carbon emissions increased year by year, but carbon emission intensity decreased continuously, from 4.19 tons Per 10,000 Yuan in 1992 falling to 2.75 tons Per 10, 000 Yuan in 2007, with the annual average reduction rate of 2.28%. The energy consumption structure of Guangzhou city was not improved obviously. The result of correlation analysis showed that the growth of population and economic were the main influencing factors of carbon emission growth, while the reduction of energy intensity presented as the increment of carbon emission apparently. Therefore, we can decline the carbon emission by controlling the population, adjusting the industrial structure, promoting technical progress, declining energy intensity and enhancing energy utilization efficiency and so forth.
