Abstract
Using the medium voltage (MV) distribution line as a communication medium of the distribution automation and public communication is a cost-effective, advantage and effective way. The ring, radial and mixed lines distribution network have made the grade on power supply networks in urban areas. This paper presents the typical designs of power line communication(PLC) network for MV distribution automation. First the features of non-intrusive and intrusive inductance couplers are introduced in detail, which have the advantages of convenient installation and low cost. Then the typical designs are proposed and implemented for ring and radial distribution network. A series of successful experiments indicate that the proposed designs work well by using the inductive couplers and PLC equipments, with low bit error rate (BER) and cost.
