From the sense of providing the necessity for people´s living, it can be said that housing is one kind of infrastructure. In fact, housing development in the urban renewal can be regarded as an integrated infrastructure development project. With a rapid economic development in China, the urbanization process develops at a great speed. The housing development and urban renewal have been complementary to each other and they show significant importance to the living of Chinese people as well as to the economic development of a city. The paper introduces the definitions of old city and urban renewal, and states the interactive relationship between urban renewal and housing development. On discussing the different housing development modes, it focuses on the match of different modes and different demands from the urban renewal in the old city in China. Finally, it concludes with the comparison of the housing development modes in the urban renewal, trying to find a feasible way for the city management in China.
