Functional safety from a component supplier´s viewpoint

Emerson process management, as supplier of reliable products for a complete safety loop such as sensors; logic solvers and final elements, is already involved for many years when users select this equipment for functional safety applications. During the last years, users are also requesting for fully or partly compliance to the new IEC standards 61508 or IEC 61511. This paper is meant to disseminate Emerson´s future view and share experiences, including some recommendations towards the IEC working groups of 61508/61511; users and certifying bodies
