Abstract :
This paper presents control method of single-phase to three-phase matrix converters for PM synchronous motor drive. The circuit topology of the matrix converter has a small capacitor for compensation of single-phase instantaneous power fluctuation. The output voltage references for PM synchronous motor drive and the input current references for unity input power factor are obtained from the control system of the motor and matrix converter. The PWM strategy with the only four commutations of all the three phases during a control period is adopted. The design method of the small capacitor is derived from the control ranges of the output voltage and current. The effectiveness of the proposed control method of the single-phase to three-phase matrix converters has been verified by experiments of PM synchronous motor drive.
