Abstract :
This paper describes a new method for selecting weighting matrices of LQ regulators and its application to decoupling control of an industrial turbine for a chemical plant. The method called “ZED method”, yields weighting matrices which give desirable closed loop responses, from simple calculations. The method is based on asymptotic modal properties of multivariable LQ regulators as control weights tend to zero. Details of ZED method is explained first. Then its application to decoupling of an industrial turbine is illustrated. The operational result was satisfactory and the validity of ZED method is demonstrated
