Abstract :
Despite the fact that computational electromagnetics - numerical modelling - has been widely used since computing became widespread, no standardised procedure has been accepted to support the validation activity essential if these techniques are to be used with increased confidence. A current IEEE activity, embodied in the activities of a standards working party, aims to address this need, particularly with reference to applications in electromagnetic compatibility. This paper summarises the issues that have driven the standards activity and reviews the progress to date, illustrating some of the contributing factors and approaches to aspects of the validation activity.
