Abstract
Large area RF ion sources (PINI size, 120 kW, 1 MHz) have been developed at IPP for many years and are in operation with positive ions on the second injector of ASDEX Ugrade since 1997. Similar type sources are planned for the Stellerator WENDELSTEIN 7-X. A smaller, cylindrical source (35 kW) has been designed for a radial injection system with positive ions, which is presently under constmction for WENDELSTEIN 7-AS. Also the type V source and type VI source are discussed
