Abstract
This paper considers the theoretical spectral efficiency limits of various adaptive transmission schemes in mobile wireless radio channels with Nakagami multipath fading, log-normal shadowing, and composite multipath/shadowing. It complements and extends previous studies on channel capacity of wireless radio channels which were mainly focused on multipath fading. The numerical results suggest that the shadowing, rather than multipath fading, significantly reduces link spectral efficiencies.
