Abstract :
Through theoretical analysis and calculation, the power loss caused by the grounding method of the OPGW (optical fiber composite overhead ground wire), which is directly grounded at every tower, is researched. The experimental research and analysis prove that this grounding method increases the possibility of suffering from lightning stroke and breaking. Aiming at the problems brought by the OPGW directly grounding at every tower, a new grounding method, in which OPGW was grounded through arc-guiding gap, was discussed and presented. And the needs for the arc-guiding gap and its influence on the line operation were investigated and analyzed. The results prove that using arc-guiding gap instead of directly grounding at every tower effectively solves the problems of OPGW circulating current loss and its liability of suffering from lightning stroke and breaking.
