Abstract
During November of 1991, microwave scattering measurements of the ocean were obtained from a research vessel in support of coastal ocean studies in coordination with the commissioning phase of the newly launched ERS-1 spacecraft. The NORwegian Continental Shelf EXperiment provided in situ shipboard observations of wind-wave-current interactions and backscatter in coincidence with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) acquisitions. Insight gained from the in situ observations will be used in the interpretation of the oceanographic and meteorological features found in SAR imagery
