Abstract :
As systems become more complex and the electromagnetic (EM) environment ever more harsh, the need to design compliant systems needs careful management. There is a need to consider all the electromagnetic environments in unison to reduce the cost of compliance and to mitigate the retro fit protection conflict. This approach is known as the unified electromagnetic environmental effects (UE3) approach. This paper presents two useful tools, DREAM and TODREAM, which can aid in the EMC design of systems. The DREAM design tool is capable of computing generic transfer functions, convolution with time domain environments, flexible database, and enables data from all EM measurements to be stored and processed. The TODREAM design tool offers an iterative approach to military certification and an assessment of the individual and integrated EM environments.
