Abstract :
We present Follow me!, a client application for Presence@FER, an ecosystem for rich presence which consolidates virtual, physical and online presence and relies on a publish/subscribe service for efficient filtering of presence updates. Follow me! simplifies the usage of rich presence service on smartphones and enables both explicit and implicit changes of user status. It uses phone sensors, phone status and applications as sources of presence information which affect user status. Additionally, a notification mechanism is in place which informs a user only about specific changes of presence information which are of interest to the user. Such a rich presence client reduces the number of exchanged presence updates and thus reduces the energy consumption on smartphones as well as network traffic within the core network.
