Abstract
Open industrial standards in telemetry integration are important in creating a standard for open data transport and liberating data in a 3-tier architecture. Telemetry integration can be applied to many diverse applications such as pipeline (oil, gas, and water), energy and utilities (electricity, gas, oil, and water), process control, and factory automation. MQ telemetry is a protocol specification published and freely available on the Web. MQ telemetry, an "open" protocol jointly developed by IBM and Arcom Control Systems, is a lightweight wire transport for publish and subscribe over TCP/IP with various assurances of delivery. Security considerations in encryption, non-repudiation, entitlement, payload level, protocol level, and connection level should be carefully noted. MQ telemetry is currently working with a range of device and gateway manufacturers to enable products for the MQ telemetry transport.
