Abstract :
RadarSat and ERS-2 images acquired over a Brown Locust breeding site in Southern Africa were analysed with a view to estimating soil moisture levels, which are important for determining locust egg development. Predictions from the IEM model using data from field measurements were compared with the backscatter responses from the satellites. The results confirm the potential of SAR imagery in pest management applications.
