Abstract
This paper describes an architecture to mitigate the packet loss on wireless networks based on a TCP proxy. The TCP proxy improves the data download rate in environments with high packet loss. It is transparent for both TCP sender and receiver regarding the TCP syntax. The proxy applies methods like buffering, timing control, and ACK control in order to avoid (i) the congestion phase to start after packet losses, (ii) throughput degradation, and (iii) unnecessary retransmission of segments by the TCP sender.
