Abstract :
In this paper, an enhanced and provably secure hybrid random number generator (Hybrid RNG) for generating the cryptographic keys in a cryptosystem is designed. These keys are the most crucial component in this system as the security of the most cryptosystem lies entirely on it. Therefore, a mechanism to generate this key is presented and the generation platform must be strong and cryptographic secure. The design of hybrid RNG combines a true random number generator (True RNG) which employs single photon detection and a linear feedback shift register (LFSR), which is a hardware - based pseudorandom number generator (Pseudo RNG). Both designs are extremely compact and reliable to be implemented in any cryptographic hardware device. Furthermore, the processing unit in the key generation process is realized by using a full programmable gate array (FPGA) chip and it can be securely used in a cryptosystem. The randomness of Hybrid RNG is tested using NIST statistical test and this method has produced a good statistical result. With the realization of Hybrid RNG, the key generation process in cryptosystem becomes stronger and infeasible to attack.
