Abstract
2D photonic crystal (PC) structures have been integrated as one mirror in continuous wave ridge waveguide lasers. The lasers are realized on InGaAsP SCH-laser layers emitting at 1.55 μm. A cleaved facet was used as laser mirror on the output side of the cavity and on the other side the devices had an etched PC as second mirror. Triangular arrays of holes with different crystal orientation defined the PC mirrors. Variations of the lattice period and of the lattice orientation are used to investigate the influence of the PC mirrors on the external efficiency through the cleaved facet. We observe a clear variation of the slope efficiency of the lasers versus the PC geometry. From the dependence of the slope efficiency on the PC geometry the reflectivity of the PC mirrors is grating obtained
