Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel spatial diversity technique which uses only one antenna element. For the static or quasi-static rich scattering environments, significant diversity gain can be attained by simply moving the antenna element around a certain geographical area. Such diversity gain is conventionally obtained by multiple fixed antennas. The proposed method can greatly reduce the implementation cost because it requires only one RF chain, one cable feeder and one antenna element. Simulation results show that, with the same geographical span, the proposed method can achieve the same or even better performance as that of traditional diversity systems.
