Abstract :
The paper presents the design of open system techniques to integrate a real time database into a distributed computing environment. With the advent of US government mandates for open systems in their computer system procurements, even large distributed real time applications will need to meet the requirements of using commercial off the shelf (COTS) technology with interfaces that adhere to widely accepted standards. While it is possible for such applications to use real time databases, there are substantial research issues involved with synthesizing the many requirements of real time databases, distribution, and open systems. The paper presents our results from incorporating the COTS Zip RTDBMS from DBx Inc. into a standard CORBA distributed computing environment using an SQL interface
