Abstract :
PC advances are driven by a combination of user demands and technology. With the PC´s penetration of the consumer market, it is essential that user requirements drive technology investments. The author describes the current environment as content and applications drive technology investments for the next major advancements in the PC. These advances will allow for the development of a broad base of communication and entertainment applications. This, in turn, will propel the demand of more powerful and prevalent use of VLSI technologies, including microprocessors, memories and DSP chips.
