Abstract
This paper is concerned with application of genetic algorithms (GAs) to optimal reactive power dispatch and voltage control of power systems. A decomposed coding structure is proposed in the genetic search approach to code a large number of variables involved in the large-scale systems. Simulation results, compared with that obtained using a conventional gradient-based optimisation method, are presented to show the potential of applications of the proposed methodology in power system economical operations.
